Industry Liaison Officer's Report

In 2010, approximately 50 drill and / or service rigs were moved to work on new well sites and abandon some well sites that are no longer producing.  In addition, there were contractors hauling from eight active gravel pits in the County and farming operations have also gotten larger. These activities all impact County road conditions.

With the co-operation of oil companies, gravel haulers, logging contractors, farmers, and other contractors contacting the County for Road Haul Agreements, the County is able to keep the road damage to a minimum.

When damage does occur, the Haul Road Agreement facilitates cooperation between the user and the County, either for the user to repair the road to a set standard or to compensate the County to repair the damage. Farmers hauling for farm purposes causing damage to a road are asked to notify us immediately as it may be dealt with differently if notified by a third party.

The use of the Haul Road Agreement is of benefit to both the Company and the County by monitoring the condition of the roads.

Once again, the County did not place road bans on gravel roads, instead applied time restrictions and assigned designated routes  according to conditions.  The County will continue to use the same practices in 2011, as long as the cooperation continues from the users.

Oiled roads will remain at 75% road ban

Anyone with larger equipment or trucks (e.g. air seeders, bale, grain or silage trucks) are asked to be courteous to traffic on our gravel roads by slowing down when passing residences or other traffic. This will reduce dust and decrease chances of accidents. Be aware that the cost for the time to notify us prior to moving heavy loads is minor compared to what it would cost to repair a damaged road.

I would like to thank all individuals and farmers hauling heavy loads on County roads for their cooperation and kindly request them and others to please call the County at 650-5100.

Cooperation and Communication continues to keep roads in good driving condition.
