RECOGNIZING OUR HERITAGE NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF Smoky Lake County, Town of Smoky Lake, Village of Waskatenau & Village of Vilna Collectively, Smoky Lake County, Town of Smoky Lake, and the Villages of Waskatenau and Vilna, have contracted Community Design Strategies Inc. to conduct a Historical Survey and Inventory for the Smoky Lake Region. The Survey and Inventory Project is an important and primary step in protecting the heritage places that characterize the very way of life, the sense of time and place in our Region’s history. Once designation takes place, the site owners may apply for provincial dollars to assist in the restoration, rehabilitation and / or protection of a particular site. Community Design Strategies Inc. (CDS Inc.) will be conducting site visits during July and August and may seek permission from land owners in any of these four municipalities. The following personnel from Community Design Strategies Inc. will be involved in this project and may make contact with landowners: · Merinda Conley · Robert Earley · Gord Snyder The Smoky Lake Heritage Board, in collaboration with CDS Inc., will be organizing a Open House for public consultation. AREA STRUCTURE PLANS (ASP) Smoky Lake County & County of St. Paul GARNER LAKE AREA STRUCTURE PLAN The goal of the ASP is to establish a long term vision for the community as well as set in place policies and guidelines to guide land use and development in the area. One of the most important steps in the planning process is to receive input from stakeholders and community members about the issues, opportunities and constraints affecting the Garner Lake Area, in order to ensure that the policies enshrined in the completed ASP are both tenable and achievable. This feedback, once compiled, will enable the completed ASP to more accurately reflect the goals and aspirations of community members and stakeholders groups. As such, the Council, staff and Municipal Planning Services (Alberta) Ltd. would like to invite you to attend the project information session and/or Open Space Management and ASP Workshop to learn about the Areas Structure Planning process and share with us your vision for the future of the Garner Lake community. On Saturday, July 25, 2009, a workshop was held, in an effort to provide attendees information about the lake ASP process and also give the public the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a comprehensive vision for the Garner Lake community. With over 125 people attending the one hour information session and close to 50 people participating in the workshops, the day was considered to be a huge success. Continue to watch this webpage. Once the information has been consolidated into a Summary Report, this Report will be released on this webpage. July 25 2009 Powerpoint Presentation For more information, contact:

MONS LAKE AREA STRUCTURE PLAN Further to the Public Open House held on June 28, 2008 another forum was provided to update the public on the Mons Lake Area Structure Plan project and provide an additional opportunity to contribute to the planning process. Municipal Planning Services (Alberta) Ltd. is currently working in collaboration with Smoky Lake County to prepare an Area Structure Plan (ASP) for Mons Lake. The project began in early 2008 and was put on hold for a few months while the County worked to complete other Area Structure Planning projects. The goal of the ASP is to establish a long term vision for the community as well as set in place policies and guidelines for land use and development in the area. One of the most important steps in the planning process is to receive input from stakeholders and community members about the issues, opportunities and constraints affecting the Mons Lake area, in order to ensure that the policies enshrined in the completed ASP are both tenable and achievable. This feedback, once compiled, will enable the completed ASP to more accurately reflect the goals and aspirations of community members and stakeholder groups. The public has an investment in this community and every voice is important. Invitations were sent to landowners in the Mons Lake area, inviting them to participate in the Mons Lake Area Structure Plan information session and also the Mons Lake open space management and ASP workshop. The information session and workshop were split up into consecutive events to allow those community members who want a bit more information about the Area Structure planning project but cannot commit to a day long workshop the opportunity to catch-up on the status of the project and provide feedback. Although the attendance was smaller than expected, the participation from the individuals was outstanding and the information collected was very valuable. Continue to watch this webpage. Once the information has been consolidated into a Summary Report, this Report will be released on this webpage. August 22 2009 Powerpoint Presentation For more information, contact:
