2024 Proclamations

National Drowning Prevention Week promotes awareness of the drowning prevention problem in Canada and the need         for individuals, communities, organizations, and government to take action in an effort to save lives. Drowning is preventable!
  • Treaty No. 6 Day: August 23, 2024
Treaty 6 covers the central west portions of present-day Alberta and Saskatchewan. It was first signed on August 23, 1876 at Fort Carlton and on September 9, 1876 at Fort Pitt, Saskatchewan between the Crown, Cree, Chipewyan, and Stoney Nations.

  • Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day: September 7, 2024
September 7th is known as Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day in Alberta. 2024 marks the 133rd year since the first recorded arrival of Ukrainians in Canada.
The date was chosen to honour the first officially recorded Ukrainian immigrants, Ivan Pylypiw and Vasyl Eleniak, who arrived in Canada on Sept. 7, 1891.

 

  • Alberta Development Officers Week: September 22-28, 2024
Development Officers may be involved in a variety of aspects of the development or re-development of lands, including subdivision, rezoning or the development permitting process. 

 

  • Métis Crossing Day: September 25, 2024
Métis Crossing is a place of inspiration, sharing the warmth and strength of the rich and distinct Métis culture, offering legendary experiences that elevate the spirit and enrich lives.
 
  • Small Business Week: October 20 - 26, 2024
Small Business Week is a national event that recognizes the contribution that small businesses make to our economic wellbeing and way of life.

 

  • Family Violence Prevention Month: November 2024
Alberta has the third highest rate of self-reported spousal violence among Canadian provinces, yet family violence is preventable. November is Family Violence Prevention Month (FVPM) in Alberta. It is a time to increase awareness of the warning signs of family violence and the resources and supports available so we can work together to end family violence and build healthier relationships in our communities.

 

  • Métis Week: November 10 - 16, 2024

Every year on the week of November 16, in memory of Louis Riel’s wrongful execution, we proudly honour our Métis heritage and celebrate the future of our vibrant and everlasting Métis Nation.
