Land Acknowledgement

'...as long as the river flows, and the grass grows...'

This river (ᑭᓯᐢᑳᒋᐘᓂᓰᐱᐩ) kisiskâciwani-sîpiy [key-sis-catch-wan-sipy] (nehiyawak or Plains Cree - Swift Flowing River) / Omaka-ty (Blackfoot - Big River), and its surrounding lands are the traditional territories and gathering places of diverse Indigenous peoples, including the Cree, Blackfoot, Ktunaxa, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibwe, Saulteaux, Anishinaabe, Inuit, and Assiniboine. This is also the homeland of the Métis.

In the spirit of respect and reciprocity, we acknowledge that the lands within the North Saskatchewan River watershed are located in Treaty 6, Treaty 8, and the Métis Homeland, in addition to the traditional and enduring river relationship also shared by several Nations from Treaty 7, and the Metis Nation of Alberta (MNA) Regions 4, 3, 2, and 1.

We recognize the contributions of the Indigenous peoples who have cared for this land since time immemorial and whose rich histories, cultures, languages, and presence continue to enrich these sacred lands we all steward as Treaty People.
