Acknowledging our Home Land

We acknowledge and honour that the land on which we gather and call home is the traditional and unceded territory of the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.

This land, known today as Smoky Lake, has been a place of gathering, storytelling, and sustenance for countless generations. We pay our respects to the Elders, both past and present, and to all Indigenous people who have stewarded this land throughout the ages.

We recognize the historical injustices, colonization, and ongoing impacts of this history on Indigenous communities. We commit to working towards reconciliation, understanding, and partnership with Indigenous peoples.

As we move forward, may we do so with humility and a deep appreciation for the land, the waters, and the Indigenous cultures that continue to enrich this region. In the spirit of healing and unity, we pledge to be good stewards of this land and to support the resurgence of Indigenous ways of life.
