Coyote Reduction Program

Residents living within Smoky Lake County boundaries will be eligible to participate in this program and will be asked to provide the legal land location where the animals were harvested. 

Yes, animals that originate from outside of County boundaries or are brought in by a non-resident will not be accepted for payment under this program.

Smoky Lake County will pay an incentive of $15 per coyote for the duration of the program.

Carcasses will be accepted at the Public Works Shop by Agricultural Service Board staff BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. To make an appointment, call 780-656-3730. 

Animals must be covered by a tarp or by other means when bringing them in for incentive payment. 

The whole animal must be brought in, and ASB staff will remove the left front foot from the carcass to identify it as having received the incentive. Coyotes missing any front limb will not be accepted, as intact front limbs are required to verify eligibility and compliance with program requirements.

The program will be available until March 31, 2026. 

This program may terminate at an earlier date than the March 31, 2026, deadline subject to budget limitations. 

The carcass will be returned to the owner who will be responsible to dispose of it properly. The Agriculture Department staff will just be removing the front left paw only.

This program is on a first come, first serve basis, with a maximum of 20 coyotes per week/ participant will be accepted.
