Position Objectives:
Smoky Lake County is seeking full-time highly skilled and experienced firefighters to join our dedicated team. Firefighters respond to emergency situations including fires, motor vehicle collisions, medical incidents, dangerous goods events, public safety events while serving and protecting the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responded to emergency situations
- Perform maintenance on apparatus, equipment, PPE and stations
- Participate in ongoing training and practices
- Participate in community events, presentations and public education
- Participate in fire prevention and pre-planning incidents
- Assist in the orientation and
mentorship of new firefighters
Minimum Requirements:
- NFPA 1001: Firefighter - Level 1
- NFPA 1002: Fire Apparatus / Operator
- NFPA 470: Hazardous Materials / WMD - Awareness
- NFPA 470: Hazardous Materials / WMD – Operations
- NFPA 1140: Wildland Firefighter – Level 1
- Incident Command System (ICS) 100
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certificate
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with a Q endorsement
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable sector check may be required)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Preferred Requirements
- NFPA 1001: Firefighter – Level 2
- NFPA 1002: Fire Apparatus Pump Operator
- NFPA 1041: Fire Instructor – Level 1
- ICS 200 and 300
- Flag Person
Training
Desirable Training and Experience:
- A minimum of Two (2) years of relevant or related experience in the fire service
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
- Work well in a team environment
