Position Objectives:
Smoky Lake County is seeking a dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Custodian at the County’s Main Office in Smoky Lake, Alberta.
Reporting to the Director of Community Services and Utilities,
the successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe,
and professional environment for staff and the public. This position is well-suited
for someone who enjoys working independently and takes pride in creating a
welcoming and hygienic workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean all accessible areas including offices, washrooms, kitchen/lunchroom, entranceways, and common areas
- Dust, sweep, vacuum, mop, and sanitize surfaces and high-touch areas
- Empty garbage and dispose of waste
- Replenish washroom and cleaning supplies
- Perform periodic and seasonal cleaning tasks
- Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance concerns
- Maintain custodial equipment and supply areas
- Secure the building after hours, including locking doors, closing windows, and arming alarms
- Follow all County safety policies and Occupational Health and Safety (Alberta) requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks
- Reliability and strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of safe handling and disposal of cleaning products
- Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record
Check prior to employment
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- Custodial or janitorial experience
- Knowledge of standard custodial cleaning methods and procedures
- High school diploma
Benefits:
- Hours of Work: 6 hours per day, Monday to Friday (30 hours per week)
- Work Location: Smoky Lake County Main Office, Smoky Lake, Alberta
- Wage/Benefits: In accordance with the Canadian
Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4575 Collective Agreement
Working Conditions
- Work is performed after regular office hours
- Typical working hours are approximately 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with some flexibility based on operational needs
- Work is primarily within an indoor office environment
- Position involves physical activity including
lifting, bending, and repetitive tasks
