Smoky Lake County Declares Agricultural Disaster
DECLARATION OF A MUNICIPAL AGRICULTURAL DISASTER
At a Special Council Meeting held on July 24, 2025, Smoky Lake County Council unanimously voted to declare a Municipal Agricultural Disaster in response to the ongoing drought and extremely dry conditions impacting the region.
This declaration is intended to draw attention to the significant challenges local producers are currently experiencing—and are expected to continue facing in the weeks and months ahead. The declaration also emphasizes the vital importance of agriculture to our municipality, our province, and the global food supply chain.
Letters will be sent to both the Provincial Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation and the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to highlight the urgent situation and advocate for support for our agricultural community.
