Public Works- Summer Student Labourer

Position Objectives:

Smoky Lake County is seeking a self-motivated Summer Student to join the Public Works team as a general labourer. This is an excellent opportunity for any student seeking a hands-on experience in municipal operations and outdoor maintenance.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the successful candidate will be a valued member of the Public Works Department who will assist with a variety of maintenance and construction activities. Work will primarily be outdoors and will involve physically demanding tasks in a team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with road maintenance activities, including patching and general repairs
  • Installing and maintaining road signage
  • Performing brushing and vegetation control along roadways and municipal properties
  • Loading and unloading equipment, tools, and materials
  • Assisting with construction and general labour tasks as required
  • Performing general cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and worksites
  • Operating hand tools and performing manual labour, including shovel work

Minimum Requirements:

▪  Must be returning to full-time post-secondary education in the fall of 2026

▪  Ability to perform physically demanding labour in varying weather conditions

▪  Ability to take direction and follow safe work practices

▪  Willingness to work outdoors and in a team setting

▪  Punctual, dependable, and safety-conscious

▪  Valid Class 5 driver’s license is considered an asset
