Position Objectives:
Smoky Lake County's Public Works Department is seeking a dedicated and proficient Journey Certified Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team in Smoky Lake, Alberta. This is a permanent, full-time position focused entirely on the maintenance and repair of our diverse municipal fleet.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Lead Mechanic/Maintenance Coordinator, the Journey Certified Mechanic will be responsible for the hands-on diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of all County fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. This role requires a strong technical focus, performing overhauls, routine maintenance, and preventative maintenance inspections to maximize equipment safety and life. This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, 7:30-4:00 with an on-call rotation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Competent and proficient in all aspects of light and heavy-duty equipment testing, diagnosing, and repair.
- Perform required repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Work on diesel and gasoline engines, fuel systems, emission systems, electronic systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct C.V.I.P.'s (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program inspections) on equipment according to Provincial standards.
- Resolve and troubleshoot technical problems as they arise.
- Maintain organized
procedures by assisting with the review of daily vehicle and equipment
checklists.
Minimum Requirements:
- ValidJourney Certified Heavy Equipment Technician or Automotive Service Technician.
- Valid Commercial Vehicle Inspection Technician License considered an asset.
- Valid Alberta Driver's License (Class 1 preferred) with a clean Driver Abstract. Minimum Class 5, Air Brakes an asset.
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check.
- Comprehensive knowledge of road construction and heavy equipment.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software such as Microsoft Office, Cat SIS & ET, Cummins Insite, Quickserve, and Snap-On Scanner.
- Experience, or willingness to learn, with equipment management software.
- Knowledgeable of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations affecting municipal operations and Provincial/Federal Safety Legislation.
This position offers a competitive salary as per the based on the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 955, Collective Agreement with Smoky Lake County and includes an excellent benefit package.
