Gravel Roads: Assigned designated routes for loaded trucks according to road conditions, time restrictions will apply, no hauling when road conditions are excessively wet.

Due to the rising daytime temperatures, heavy haul travel on gravel roads may be accommodated, time restrictions will apply.

Any hauling activity on gravel roads MUST be reported to Public Works:
Bob Novosiwsky, Public Works Foreman/ Road Liaison     780-650-5100
Kyle Winterbottom, Public Works Manager                         780-656-3730   ext:134

Seasonal road bans are implemented to help protect County roads during periods when they are most vulnerable to damage, particularly during the spring thaw when moisture weakens the road structure. Heavy truck traffic places a high demand on these roads, which are more susceptible to damage this time of year due to the frost thaw. Limiting heavy vehicle loads during this time helps preserve road conditions, reduce maintenance costs, and improve safety for all motorists.

Road bans apply to commercial and heavy vehicles, including trucks hauling goods and agricultural equipment or loads.

Alberta Transportation manages provincial highways, and also issues bans on those roads. A list of bans on these roads is available on the provincial website.

Smoky Lake County thanks road users for their cooperation in protecting our valuable transportation system this spring.
