Summer Student Shop Maintenance Assistant-Public Works

Position Objectives:

Smoky Lake County is seeking a self motivated Summer Student to join the Public Works team as an assistant in our shop. This is an excellent opportunity for any student seeking a hands-on experience in the municipal maintenance department.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Shop Foreman. The successful candidate will be a valued member in the Public Works Department who will assist with maintaining, servicing, and repairing vehicles and heavy equipment, along with various other shop duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  Assisting mechanics with maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment.

  Performing shop clean-up and tool organization.

  Running parts and supplies as directed.

  Supporting general shop operations and tasks as required.

  Participating in safety and training activities.

Minimum Requirements:

  Must be returning to full-time post-secondary education in the fall of 2026

  Strong interest in mechanics or equipment maintenance

  Ability to take direction and work in a team setting

  Physically able to perform manual labour and lift equipment parts

  Punctual, dependable, and safety-conscious
