Position Objectives:
Smoky Lake County is seeking a self motivated Summer Student to join the Public Works team as an assistant in our shop. This is an excellent opportunity for any student seeking a hands-on experience in the municipal maintenance department.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Shop Foreman. The successful candidate will be a valued member in the Public Works Department who will assist with maintaining, servicing, and repairing vehicles and heavy equipment, along with various other shop duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
▪ Assisting mechanics with maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment.
▪ Performing shop clean-up and tool organization.
▪ Running parts and supplies as directed.
▪ Supporting general shop operations and tasks as required.
▪ Participating in safety and training activities.
Minimum Requirements:
▪ Must be returning to full-time post-secondary education in the fall of 2026
▪ Strong interest in mechanics or equipment maintenance
▪ Ability to take direction and work in a team setting
▪ Physically able to perform manual labour and lift equipment parts
▪ Punctual, dependable, and safety-conscious
