Election Worker

Smoky Lake County will be hiring Election Workers to work at the 2025 Municipal Election.

During an election, poll workers are the front-line contact who make it possible for electors to vote.

Duties Include:

  • Setting up and closing polling stations
  • Greeting and assisting voters
  • Checking voter identification and registering electors
  • Issuing ballots and explaining voting procedures
  • Ensuring election integrity and confidentiality

 
Basic Requirements:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic analytical skills
  • Basic literacy skills (reading, writing and comprehension)
  • Basic interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise impartiality and patience
  • Ability to serve voters with disabilities
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to read maps
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to standards and safety measures
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work a long day (up to 14 hours) without leaving the work site

Eligibility Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age as of October 20, 2025
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Knowledge of Local Authorities Election Act is an asset
  • Able to attend mandatory Election Worker training on either October 7 or 14.


Compensation will be based on experience. Compensation for attending the training day will be a flat rate.
