Information for Voters

Under new provincial legislation, all eligible voters who wish to vote in an Alberta Municipal Election must be listed on a Permanent Electors Register which will be maintained by each municipality. This process is new to Albertans, Smoky Lake County and its voters.

How Do I Register to Vote?

Registering in advance for the Smoky Lake County’s Permanent Electors Register will ensure your voting experience is fast, easy and as smooth as possible.

Smoky Lake County’s list of eligible voters comes from Voterlink (Elections Alberta). Make sure your information is accurate by registering, updating, or confirming your voter details through Voterlink to be included in Smoky Lake County's permanent Electors Register.

Non-registered voters will be required to complete registration at a voting station prior to receiving a ballot, which may delay the voting process and cause longer waits at the polls.

 Missed the deadline? No problem – You can still vote! You’ll be able to register or update your information right at your polling station during advance voting or on Election Day.

Registered Voters

All registered voters are required to show valid government issued identification containing, at minimum, the voter's photograph and name.

If you are registered, it is recommended to use one of the following common types of identification:

• Alberta Driver Licence
• Alberta Identification Card
• Canadian Passport
• Canadian Citizenship Card
• Certificate of Indian Status Card
• First Nation Membership Card
• Métis Nation of Alberta Citizenship Card
• Métis Settlement Membership Card
• Canadian Forces ID Card
• Veterans Health Care ID Card
• CANPASS, FAST, or Nexus Card
• CATSA Identification Card
• Firearm Possession and Acquisition (PAL) Licence
• Alberta Service Dog ID Card

 

Non Registered Voters

On Voting Day, all non-registered voters are required to:

1. Complete a statement of elector eligibilty that they are eligible to vote.
2. Show valid government issued identification containing the voters photograph, name and current address. It is recommended to use one of the following common types of identification:

• Alberta Drivers Licence
• Alberta Identification Card
  
  

If You Do Not Have Photo ID That Validates Your Name and Current Address
If you are a non-registered voter unable to produce government issued photo identification that validates your name and current address or your address has recently changed, you will be required to provide one piece of Valid ID with your name and current address. It is recommended to use the following types of identification:  

• one piece of Valid Identification with your name, and
• Passport
• Alberta Health Care Card
• Military ID
• Metis Nation or Indian Status Card
• Employment ID
• Student ID
• Birth Certificate
• Social Insurance Card

• a second piece of Valid Identification that confirms your name and lists your current address. 
• Insurance document
• Bank Statement
• Personal Cheque
• Mortgage Statement
• Residential Lease
• Utility Bill
• Tax Assessment
• Vehicle Ownership/Registration
