Notice of Public Hearing 

Proposed Amendment to Intermunicipal Development Plan

Pursuant to the Municipal Government Act, R.S.A. 2000, Sections 216.4, 606 and 692, the Council of Smoky Lake County & the Council of the Village of Waskatenau, hereby give notice of their intention to consider adoption of Smoky Lake County Bylaw No. 1484-25 and Village of Waskatenau Bylaw No. 714-2025. The purpose of these Bylaws is to amend Section 3.4.2 of the Intermunicipal Development Plan between Smoky Lake County (Bylaw No. 1424-22) & the Village of Waskatenau (Bylaw 697-2022) as follows:

That Section 3.4.2 be amended by replacing the text with the following:

“Land designated as Serviced and Un-Serviced Commercial Use or Serviced Commercial Use Area may develop in a wide range of commercial uses. Land uses that my be suitable for the area are limited to the permitted and discretionary use listed in the Commercial Districts of the Village of Waskatenau and Smoky Lake County Land Use Bylaws. The Development Authority for each municipality may require that new commercial development within the Serviced Commercial Area be required to connect to municipal piped sanitary sewer and water services.”

THEREFORE TAKE NOTICE THAT pursuant to Sections 606 and 692 of the Municipal Government Act a joint Public Hearing to consider the proposed Bylaws will be held:

AND FURTHUR TAKE NOTICE THAT anyone wishing to make a verbal or written representation may do so at the Hearing, or by providing the representation to the County’s Chief Administrative Officer or the Village’s Chief Administrative Officer, before 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025. It would be beneficial for individuals to provide advance notice to Smoky Lake County at (780) 656-3730 of their intention to make a presentation at the Hearing.

AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE THAT a copy of the proposed Bylaws may be inspected at the Smoky Lake County Office & the Village of Waskatenau office during normal business hours.
